Description With practically all of the world's near surface deposits being exposed, future discoveries will need t o be made in areas with extensive transported cover. Geologists will need to use the most up to date tools, which include using geochemical exploration methods. These two days of power point lectures will cover the topics of primary dispersion, secondary dispersion, sampling strategies, seeing thru transported cover, analytical methods, quality control, data analysis, multi-elemental methods such as partial and selective leaches as well as field based soil pH techniques. The course will also cover case studies from geochemical surveys in diverse physiographic and climatic environments from around the world. Who should attend This course is suitable for exploration geologists ranging from new graduates who will benefit from a presentation of the basic principles, to more senior geologists who have an interest in developing their skills in applied geochemistry. Past course participants have also included government geologists, prospectors and mining engineers.
Dave Heberlein has
been involved in mineral exploration for the past 37 years. He holds a
B.Sc. (Hons.) in Geology from the University of Southampton, England,
and an M.Sc., (Geology and Exploration Geochemistry) from the University
of British Columbia. He has world-wide experience in exploring for both
precious and base metal deposits and has worked extensively in both
North and South America, Europe, Africa and Australia. Prior to joining
Barrick Gold Corp. in 1994, he worked for a number of senior Mining
companies.
Course Outline
Course Comments: "The instructor was very knowledgeable, well spoken and relayed information easily and in an understandable manner. He was relaxed and put the class at ease to ask questions. Dave confirmed my belief that companies spend loads of money on ICP geochemistry and then the geo's do nothing more than plot up Au and As when there is so much more that can be learned from diving into all of the data the labs provide you." - Gregg Loptien, Agnico Eagle, December 2016, Vancouver
"- Good, comprehensive
course materials "- It is a very useful course, in which we found really interesting information and in which we found answers for many questions." - Prospectiuni S.A., Andreea, December 2014, Istanbul "- Experienced consultant in this topic is the most [strength] of the course" - Alacer Gold, Esin Sisman, December 2014, Istanbul
